Forty-three years.

Dr. Barry Oppenheimer opened ACP Wellness in 1983. He is still here — the same hands, the same address, and the same philosophy: understand the whole person before you touch them. No rotating associates. No pressure. No plans you didn't ask for.

Patients don't get bounced between offices. They get one doctor who sees the full picture.

Specialties
  • Chiropractic adjustments (diversified, low-force)
  • Acupuncture — musculoskeletal & systemic
  • Chronic back & neck pain
  • Headaches, migraines, sinus relief
  • Sports & auto-injury recovery
Integrated service

Acupuncture

Integrated alongside chiropractic — same visit, same doctor

Many conditions respond better to a combined approach. Tight muscles that resist adjustment often release readily with acupuncture. Chronic pain that has stopped responding to manipulation can break the cycle with needle therapy. Dr. Oppenheimer determines the right combination — no upsells, no protocols you didn't need.

Commonly treated with acupuncture
  • Chronic low back & neck tension
  • Migraines & tension headaches
  • Anxiety, stress & sleep disruption
  • Sciatica & nerve pain
  • Digestive & systemic complaints

What brings people in

Conditions we treat every week.

Most patients who find us are not first-timers. They've tried other things, they've been managing, they've been hoping it would get better on its own. We're glad they called.

No. 01

Lower back pain

Acute flare-ups, disc involvement, or the kind of chronic ache that makes mornings miserable. Chiropractic adjustments combined with acupuncture often work when either alone has plateaued.

No. 02

Neck pain & stiffness

Forward-head posture, tech neck, post-whiplash stiffness. The muscles around the cervical spine respond well to both manipulation and needling.

No. 03

Headaches & migraines

Tension headaches and cervicogenic migraines — the kind that start in the base of your skull. Often dramatically reduced with upper-cervical work and acupuncture at trigger points.

No. 04

Sciatica & disc pain

Shooting leg pain, numbness below the knee, weakness when standing. We address nerve root irritation from both the structural and inflammatory angles.

No. 05

Shoulder & rotator cuff

Frozen shoulder, rotator cuff irritation, impingement. Acupuncture is particularly effective here — especially when the shoulder won't tolerate direct manipulation.

No. 06

Auto accident recovery

Whiplash, soft-tissue injuries, and post-collision stiffness. We document carefully and work with your adjuster when needed.

No. 07

Chronic stress & anxiety

Acupuncture has a well-documented regulatory effect on the nervous system. Many patients report better sleep and lower baseline tension after a course of treatment.

No. 08

Hip & knee pain

Sacroiliac dysfunction, IT band tightness, and hip imbalances that load the knee. Structural work and soft-tissue care complement each other well.

No. 09

Sports injuries

Runners, cyclists, weekend athletes. We focus on recovery without sidelining you longer than necessary — and on finding the mechanical cause so it doesn't keep returning.

No. 10

Digestive complaints

Acupuncture has a real effect on gut motility and systemic inflammation. Patients with IBS, bloating, and chronic digestive discomfort often see improvement alongside musculoskeletal treatment.

No. 11

Pregnancy discomfort

Pelvic girdle pain, round-ligament tension, low back strain. Both chiropractic and acupuncture techniques can be safely adapted throughout pregnancy.

No. 12

Plantar fasciitis

Stubborn heel pain that hasn't responded to rest. Acupuncture dry needling and soft-tissue work address the fascial trigger directly.

Treatment approach

Chiropractic first.
Acupuncture when it changes the outcome.

Dr. Oppenheimer does not apply a protocol. He listens, examines, and selects from a 43-year toolkit — then explains his reasoning before anything happens.

Tool · 01

Chiropractic adjustments

Diversified manual technique, drop-table, and low-force instrument-assisted options for sensitive patients. The technique is matched to you — not to a standing protocol.

Tool · 02

Acupuncture

Traditional and medical acupuncture for pain relief, nervous system regulation, and systemic complaints. Often used alongside chiropractic in the same appointment for complex or chronic cases.

Tool · 03

Trigger point & dry needling

Targeted needling of myofascial trigger points. Especially effective for shoulder, neck, and hip pain that resists manipulation alone.

Tool · 04

Soft-tissue therapy

Manual work on muscles and fascia to release tension before or after adjusting. Reduces the force needed and extends how long an adjustment holds.

Tool · 05

Spinal decompression

Gentle traction to take pressure off compressed discs. Useful for lumbar disc herniations and nerve root compression that hasn't responded to adjustments alone.

Tool · 06

Home exercise guidance

A short, specific set of movements designed to reinforce the correction between visits. Four moves you'll actually do — not a twelve-page handout.

"Forty years in, I'm still learning what works for each patient. The only protocol I trust is listening first."

I came in skeptical about acupuncture. After three sessions combined with my adjustments, my chronic neck pain was genuinely reduced for the first time in two years. I'm a convert.

I was in bad shape after a car accident. Dr. Oppenheimer put together a real recovery plan, communicated with my insurance adjuster, and didn't rush me. Six weeks later I was back to normal.

Common questions

What new patients usually ask first.

If your question isn't here, call us — we'd rather answer it now than have you guess.

Do you do both chiropractic and acupuncture in the same visit?

Yes, when it makes clinical sense. Many conditions respond better to a combined approach. Dr. Oppenheimer will recommend the combination that fits your presentation — not a standard package.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Most patients feel little to nothing beyond a mild sensation when the needle is placed. Some points produce a brief dull ache or warmth — that's often a sign the point is active. The overwhelming majority of patients find it far more comfortable than they expected.

How long until I feel better?

It depends on what's wrong and how long it's been there. Acute problems often improve in two to four visits. Chronic issues take longer. Dr. Oppenheimer will give you an honest estimate after the first exam — not a generic 24-visit plan.

Do I need a referral?

No. Chiropractors are primary-contact providers in Missouri. You can call us directly.

How many visits will I need?

We don't sell prepaid packages. After your exam we'll recommend a plan with a clear endpoint, and we'll revisit it together as you progress. You're never locked in.

What if I've had chiropractic before and didn't like it?

Tell us specifically what bothered you. There are dozens of techniques. If high-velocity adjustments aren't for you, there are low-force alternatives — and acupuncture may be a better primary tool for your case.

Is acupuncture safe during pregnancy?

Yes, with appropriate point selection. Certain points are contraindicated during pregnancy, and Dr. Oppenheimer is trained in safe adaptation of both disciplines throughout all trimesters.
